As the folks in Studiorama are getting ready to introduce their new event concept (Saturday, March 6th at Koi Kemang, foks!) they have invited the three performers (Spacesystem, Kracoon, Jirapah) to collaborate with artists to create a video performance. The first one to be released is this collaboration between Spacesystem and J.Grim. Watch Spacesystem perform Suburban Birds, a song that musically really does evoke images of its name, while splashes of colors projected on a wall and subtle editing create a serene video experience. There is also a short interview in the beginning of the video with the group sharing their philosophy on music and their collaboration with J.Grim. Good stuff, click and enjoy the video!
One half of Erik und Erika, Erik Pauhrizi is an artist that has successfully paved his own way to success. Barely over 30 years of age, Pauhrizi has exhibited his work everywhere from Indonesia, Shanghai, Germany, to New York City. What is most intriguing about the artist, though, is his approach to art. As Whiteboard Journal spoke to Pauhrizi, it became more and more apparent that he would like to promote the democratic value of the arts.
It would be wise and accurate to label Jonathan ‘Ojon’ Kusuma as one of the modern pioneers of Indonesian electronic music. Through his partnership with Aryo Adhianto they formed Space System, one of Jakarta’s most respected electronic/disco/house/psych groups, which saw their records released on Glasgow’s Optimo Music and Italy’s Pizzico Records. Having had experience in playing metal, punk and electro-disco as well as having a sizeable record collection, Ojon has also recently established one of Jakarta’s best online vinyl stores, Akamady Music. To listen to Ojon spin his favourite records, do head down to W_Music’s Cliff Notes Vol.4.
David Tarigan is a walking music wikipedia who is currently working on an Encyclopedia of Indonesian music from 1950s and up. He is also the man who is responsible in producing the immaculate LPs of one of our favourite bands, White Shoes And The Couple Company. Here, we get properly schooled about music and how we ought to spend our time in elementary school!!!

It has finally happened! Fat Cat Ffonz and his long-time partner in crime Moustapha Spliff have teamed up together for a long crazy night of hazy mixtape making for W_Music. As one might expect, the result is a mish-mash of sounds: psychedelic ballads, middle-eastern funk, Japanese house, freaky disco, Frank Zappa, weird Dutch poetry (thanks to James Pants) and pretty much everything in between. Enjoy people!

While we patiently wait for M.I.A.'s latest album, Matangi, to be released (with a mid April scheduled release) we can listen to this mix she made for Kenzo's Paris fashion show. The 8 minute and 27 seconds-long mix is a banger from beginning to end, with a selection of bass-heavy songs mixed together, culminating in M.I.A. spitting a dope braggadocios verse that will most likely appear in Matangi.
