Frau Releases ‘Happy Coda’

The singer/composer/pianist Leilani Hermiasih – better known with her stage name, Frau – is undoubtedly one of Indonesia’s valuable player to the music scene. After a two-year hiatus since her first mini album, Starlit Carousel, in 2010, fans can now listen to the dreamy vocal and symphonic piano play in her new album, Happy Coda. Released digitally by the same netlabel as her first album, Yes No Wave Music, Happy Coda consists of eight tracks all created by Frau herself.

Frau greets the ears of her listeners with a sweet piano piece in Something More. Moving on, a playful and teasing feel through the transition of piano melodies can be found in Empat Satu and Mr. Wolf. Her pure vocal such as in Water, Arah, Suspens and Whispers are also the highlight of her songs. But one definitely cannot get over Tarian Sari easily. The tale-like lyric and Frau’s vocal mimicking the traditional ‘sinden’ definitely differentiates itself from the whole album.

In her note inside the album, Frau tells how her creative process of making music starts from playing her music and then writing the musical notes. Frau’s reversed method of creating music proves the musical talent inside her since she does not read musical notes fluently. This album is a showcase of her talent. If you are a fan of Frau’s Starlit Carousel or maybe a new listener, ‘Happy Coda’ definitely won’t disappoint you. Even better, the album is available for free download here.
