Entang Wiharso: Fort-Fence Installation

by Ken Jenie

Entang Wiharso, a visual artist born in Tegal, Central Java, 19 August 1967, will create an installation made up of fences, walls, fort or “something” that refers to a sense of ownership by private individuals, families groups or race. Then the Internet has taken down these “fences”. Through his work, Wiharso discusses this paradox surrounding boundaries. This exhibition is presented by Entang in collaboration with various foreign visual artists: in his fort-installation are works by these artists created to the theme of “other beings”. He has held exhibitions in many cities in Indonesia as well as various events around the world—in Seoul, Prague, Shanghai, and Venice, amongst others. Most recently, he exhibited Untold Stories, at ARNDT in Berlin, Germany (2012).
