TranslateSingapore 2017

by Febrina Anindita

TranslateSingapore 2017 takes an unprecedented look at the translation of comics in all their colourful forms – from graphic novels and manga to bandes dessinées and comics from Southeast Asia. The festival is featuring the established Indonesian comics translator Maria Rahartati (aka Madame Asterix), as well as comics artists Aji Prasetyo and Muhammad “Mice” Misrad. Mice will be launching the English translation of his comic book Indonesia 1998.

We have also gathered comic artists, translators, and publishers from Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Philippines, UK, US and Vietnam to explore how comics are used to further intercultural understanding in a series of panel discussions, workshops, film screening and book launches.
