Jalan Surabaya
Where Pieces of the Past Are For Sale
When the late Ali Sadikin was the governor of Jakarta, more than thirty years ago, independent sellers of old books and antiques finally had permanent stalls along Jalan Surabaya. This piece focuses on the role that things of the past have in contemporary society.
