Vol.22: Merdi

The man is hardcore!

by Ken Jenie

It was fun for me to compile songs that i’ve listened way back during my teenage years (circa 1994-1997), so when my good friend Jan asked for a mixtape that consists of these particular style, i’ve started to dig my old collection at my parents’ house.

I’ve encountered most of these songs from gigs, zines that i’ve borrowed, some CDs and bootleg tapes that was handed to me from my good friends back then. Sometimes i also had to asked my mom’s friend who lived in New York to bought me some Fugazi tapes because i couldn’t find any on record stores! Some of the songs are somewhat personal to me as it was the one who accompanied me during some difficult times at that time. Not to mention that the whole movement has helped me to shape my thoughts on how music can be that important to your life, and also learned on how to stay connected (i.e: networking) since the early stage of my life. I will certainly pass these music to my son to accompany his teenage years later and hoping that he could get something (positive for sure) from it haha. Most of the bands here were not that hard to source as they’ve come to me without any help from internet, but i still certainly hope you guys can still enjoy it. Cheers!
