Gems of Java is a presentation that consists of macapat reading, gamelan ensemble and Samparan Matah Ati dance. The macapat text is taken from the work of Mangkunegara IV (1811-1881), while the gamelan ensemble serves as a bridge that connects Indonesian gamelan sounds with contemporary Asian and Western sounds. Meanwhile, Samparan Matah Ati is a dance that fuses the vocabularies of traditional choreography with modern theater elements.

Atilah Soeryadjaya is a choreographer and traditional art activist who is part of the traditional circles of Mangkunegaran Palace, Surakarta. In 2010, she successfully staged Matah Ati in Singapore, followed by Ariah in Jakarta in 2013.

In addition, Atilah Soeryadjaya will conduct a public workshop on Javanese traditional dance. This workshop will be held at Teater Salihara, Monday-Tuesday, June 01-02, 2015, from 10:00 AM. Register through tiket@salihara.org / 08170771913. Ticket: Rp00.000.whiteboardjournal, logo
