Things We Like: On Repeat

Kumpulan musik yang sering kami dengarkan akhir-akhir ini.

by Whiteboard Journal

What:

I Know The End – Phoebe Bridgers

Description:

Ya gitu lah, ketebak. If I knew Phoebe was reclaiming the skeleton suit aesthetic I would never have thrown away my Halloween costume from 3 years ago.

At this point “I Know The End” has become worship music to me. The “Driving out into the sun” part plays and my arms rise up automatically as if rejoicing at the house of the lord. Lord Phoebe, that is.

The silent screams at the end truly encapsulates the mood for 2020.

What:

HAIM – Women in Music Pt. III

Description:

This new HAIM album dropped in the midst of one of my busiest weeks working from home. It was midnight, I was neck-deep in Adobe InDesign, buried in PDFs, and then came this gift from heaven, aka the city of angels itself. I had to stop myself from repeating the album more than 3x in a day because I feared I would drive myself sick of it, and I would regret that.

I’m no music critic, but I can tell that this album is so different from their previous two. In the first two albums, I felt like every song sort of just melded into each other. If you listened to them from beginning to end, absentmindedly like I do, you couldn’t tell where one song ended and the next one began. They were all fun, but they were also very similar.

HOWEVER! Each song in Women is either a jam, a bopper, or a banger, and they all had very different sensibilities in their own right. The ideas and purposes for each song are more clearly defined. I can easily differentiate each song, albeit I’m still very bad at remembering the titles. I especially like the sassy, breathy one about booty calls, and the fierce number where Este basically told all her sexist critics to fuck off. She’s my favorite HAIM sister, no doubt.

What:

folklore – Taylor Swift

Description:

Wow, finally a new Taylor Swift album that I can get on board with. Been listening to this album non-stop since it’s been released. I listen to it while i’m working, running and even when i’m sleeping at night –I like it that much!

What:

Theophilus London Ft. Tame Impala – Only You

Description:

Honestly, the Steve Monite version already has a special place in my heart when they played it in the 2016’s boiler room in Bali that I went to. For me, It was already on repeat then, and now that it has made its comeback in a slightly different form, it’s on repeat now, too.

This version is not far off the original, the vocal–although sung by a different artist, still gives off the same vibe as Monite’s. Even the ad libs are still as raunchy as the one before. The sound is a little bit modernised and is a little cleaner, but I can’t quite pinpoint at where Steve Monite ends and where London and Tame Impala begins…

Hey, I’m not an expert, so my take on this song could be off. I just know that this version still gets me voguing.

What:

Phoebe Bridgers – Punisher

Description:

TBH, I’ve been finding myself in a dark place these past couple of weeks (don’t worry, I’m okay), dan album ini sungguh sebuah album yang tepat untuk sad girls hours (but boys are welcome too).whiteboardjournal, logo
