Every Frame a Painting

by Ken Jenie

Thanks to a Facebook post by Heart Attack host Januar Kristianto, I was pleasantly introduced to the Every Frame a Painting, a Youtube Channel dedicated to analyzing films from an editor’s standpoint. Presented by Tony Zhou, the channel has videos with specific themes and subjects – such as the quadrant system and lateral tracking shots, as well as focusing on specific directors’ works, such as Satoshi Kon’s use of editing to portray space and time, Jackie Chan using rhythm to create fight scenes, and Michael Bay’s ultra-flashy “Bayhem” style. So far, Every Frame a Painting has 17 videos published, and hopefully, with its growing number of viewers, there will be more added to its library. Click the video above to watch an episode about movie-goer favorite: the long shot, and click here to view the Youtube channel.whiteboardjournal, logo
