Bara Nyala Mama Mama in the eyes of artists and activists Moelyono is a story of struggle and livelihood Mama Mama Papua (a call for married women with children in Papua) in maintaining the balance of the earth. During the period 2005 – 2015, through social activities mainly based on education, Moelyono travel through villages in Papua within regions of Kerom, Wamena (Kurulu and Kurima), Jayapura, Abepura, Sentani, where he met with Mama who he described as warrior of the earth. From the Mama he met Moelyono studied history and philosophy of Noken (traditional woven bag of Papua), and how it became an important part in the narrative of the women struggles in Papua within a complex social and political situation.

Moelyono realized his works with collaboration and meetings with some Papuans who are settled in Yogyakarta and others who worked with him in Papua. Thus, this exhibition is not an attempt to showcase his work as an illustration of the “Noken” or “Mama Papua Strugle” itself. Moreover, the works displayed by Moelyono is emerging as a way to tell the story of encounter, learning, friendship and movements with his friends in Papua. This story is not about how Moelyono as an artist “saw” Papua, if our outlook is seen as political affairs, but it is a bid to divide the story which will continue to evolve and receive enrichment from all of those involved in this exhibition.whiteboardjournal, logo
