HBO Max telah mengumumkan kembalinya Colin Farrell dalam serial spinoff mendatang mengenai Oswald Cobblepot, atau The Penguin.

Colin Farrell memerankan The Penguin dalam “The Batman” dengan Robert Pattinson dan Zoë Kravitz yang dirilis pada 2 Maret kemarin. Sejauh ini, karya terbaru sutradara Matt Reeves tersebut telah mendapatkan review yang sangat positif, baik dari pada kritik maupun dari para penggemar. Karakter The Penguin sebelumnya juga pernah diperankan oleh Burgess Meredith di “Batman: The Movie” dan Danny DeVito di Batman.

“The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot,” ujar Farrell. “I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”

Serial spinoff The Penguin akan ditulis oleh Lauren LeFranc, yang juga akan berperan sebagai showrunner dalam proyek ini. “I have been a long fan of the world of The Batman, and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon,” ujarnya. “I am excited and humbled to continue telling stories in the grimy world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot?”

Berita untuk spinoff ini telah dikabarkan oleh Variety pada akhir tahun 2021, dan tengah dalam pengerjaan sejak bulan September tahun lalu.
