Things We Like: Dari Minggu Pertama Januari

Bar, film hingga restoran yang kami sukai.

by Whiteboard Journal

Di edisi pertama “Things We Like” di tahun 2019, kami mengumpulkan hal-hal yang sedang disukai oleh tim Whiteboard Journal berikut alasannya. Dari bar/club terbaru di Senopati, film coming of age besutan Jonah Hill hingga TV series yang mempertanyakan garis antara romansa dan emotional abuse, berikut adalah “Things We Like” dari minggu pertama Januari.

What:
Hudson Electronics Broadcast 24v LTD

Description:
Jirapah has become active again, and my core guitar sound lies with Hudson Electronic’s Broadcast.

Modeled after recording consoles from the 60s, this pedal has high headroom, adds a sparkle to the top end, and versatile enough to work as a “clean” boost, overdrive (particularly on the bottom end) and an aggressive fuzz with the gain is dialed in.

Dial the Low Cut knob to tighten up the bottom end as you see fit, and play around with the gain and level against the amp of your choosing to find your sonic character.

I tried replacing it with different drive and fuzz pedals throughout the year, but none of them can compare. The Broadcast is now my always on pedal, and any drive/fuzz pedals in the chain will come before it.

What:
Mid90s

Description:

What:
Sex & Love Around the World

Description:
Maunya nonton “Call Me by Your Name” sih, tapi masa tidak move on. Mau nonton “Roma” tapi rasanya belum siap. Yhaaa mau rilek inget kerjaan.

What:
Tramps

Description:
Meskipun akting para pemain di film ini agak kaku, dan ceritanya yang klasik (they found love in the hopeless place #spoiler), tapi gue suka banget sama cara pengambilan gambarnya.

What:
Mediterranea Restaurant’s Croissant

Description:
For starters, I’m always in the mood for good croissants and all things bread-related. But sadly, although these croissants might look good n crisp on the outside, it usually tastes bland and stale on my first bite. Very disappointing. So, what a surprise it is for me to find one of the good ones in Yogyakarta during my visit to the well-known Mediterranea Restaurant. It was so good that I had to go there in the morning 2 hours before my flight just to get breakfast and eat 2 croissants and bring 1 back to Jakarta just because I couldn’t and wouldn’t let go. 10/10 would recommend, and don’t forget to ask them to heat it when you’re planning to eat them there.

What:
The ‘Soft Boy’ Epidemic – Kurtis Conner

Description:
If you feel weirded out by all the Noah Centineos, the Ross Lynches, the Cole Sprouses of the world, or basically any Netflix original male leads, this video is for you. This Conner dude (who looks exactly like a textbook soft boy mind you) focuses the video on the contents of an account called @beam_me_up_softboi and it’s basically @textsfromyourex but “arty” soft boi edition. Love it. 2019 soft boiz no more.

What:
Zodiac

Description:
It’s about time that we have a proper basement music bar-cum-semi club, thank goodness Zodiac came in the right time to occupy one of the busiest streets of Senopati.

Zodiac is a brainchild of Pleasure; a group of like-minded youth culture enthusiasts united under one roof to spread the exuberant disco reality. This small yet intimate space combines kinky, raw & sleazy disco looks with impeccable sound system designed to get your ears pampered after such a long day of work/daily activity. Ain’t 2019 exciting!

What:
Billy on the Street

Description:
The new year brings a rush of anxiety for me, and what better way to forget the societal demands of setting resolutions than watching a weirdo scream at other pedestrian weirdos?

It’s a little late for Christmas caroling, but this is one of my favorite clips featuring manic pilgrim Amy Poehler.

What:
YOU – Netflix Original Series

Description:
“What would you do for love?” thats the real question here. Awalnya sih romantis (in so many ways), tapi juga menurut saya tv series ini sangat mencekam, and lets not forget how gorgeous Penn Badgley is heuheu.

What:
Frank Ocean – Endless

Description:

What:
Tidak Ada Salju di Sini (EP)

Description:
I always love his choice of words for lyrics. Aransemen musiknya cukup bold compared to the lyrics (liriknya cenderung sedih), tapi ya musiknya ada yang pop, lo-fi, instrumental.

Jennifer Garner’s Pretend Cooking Show

Description:
Please stop whatever you’re doing right now, go to Instagram, open @jennifer.garner profile, and check her IG TV section. You’re welcome.

Through #PretendCookingShow, Jennifer Garner has blessed us with her easy go-to recipes, and lovable personality. One of my favorite episode is when she makes “The best Chocolate Sheet cake” and she had to struggle with her freshly done nails. So relatable :’)

So again, please do yourself a favor and go watch them now. It’s so good, even my queen, Ina Garten, loves it.

This time of year it is extra cozy to send kids to school with something warm in their bellies. My kids feel extra cozy about @realbakingwithrose’s chocolate bread. This recipe isn’t crazy sweet and, with a good swish of peanut butter, is just the thing for my early rising middle schooler. You can find the full episode on IGTV. #PretendCookingShow #bangwentthecabinet #????‍♀️wentmybrain #hurryupchristmas?? . #TheBreadBible Chocolate Chocolate Chip Bread Ingredients: 3 Tbs plus 1/2 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder 3 Tbs boiling water 1/2 Tbs pure vanilla extract 3 large eggs 1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbs sugar 3/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 13 Tbs unsalted butter, softened 3 Tbs chocolate mini chips or bittersweet chocolate (chopped) . Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350F. 2. Whisk cocoa and boiling water until smooth. Allow to cool to room temperature, then gently whisk in vanilla and eggs. 3. In a mixer bowl, combine cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds to blend. Add half the chocolate paste and the butter and mix until dry ingredients are moistened. Increase speed to medium-high and beat for 1 minute to aerate and develop structure. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Gradually add remaining chocolate paste in two batches, beating for 20 seconds after each addition to incorporate the ingredients and strengthen the structure. Scrape down the bowl. Fold in chocolate mini chips/chopped chocolate. 4. Scrape batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the surface with a spatula. 5. Bake for 50-60 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center will read about 200F. (The bread shouldn’t start to shrink from the sides of the pan until after removal from the oven.) 6. Set the bread on a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. Loosen the sides of the bread and invert onto an oiled wire rack. Reinvert so it is top side up and cool completely.

What:
City On Fire – Ringo Lam

Description:
Upon hearing the passing of Ringo Lam, I promptly re-visited one of his old films, City On Fire. Strange how as time passes this movie feels, well, outdated. It’s still a great action film. However, it’s hard to ignore the the cringy, sexist overtones throughout the whole film in which a lot of ‘80s & ‘90s HK films are guilty of. The plot and some of the action shots are the main inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Also, not to be missed: Chow Yun Fat’s fashion! whiteboardjournal, logo
